One of the guys I work with was busting on one of his employees. They were working through an engine problem and the boss said, "it's obviously missing the piston return spring." The service guy went out and researched, made phone calls, etc trying to troubleshoot the missing spring. The boss busted him out in a staff meeting in front of his peers, very funny stuff.

Don't forget About "can of compression" and "left handed wrench"

We used to tell the new kids on the job to "go get the board stretcher" out of the truck. When they came back emty handed we'd send em back like 2-3 more times lookin for it.

FNG's at the airbase were sent looking for prop wash. I sent my ex-wife to Home Depot once to get left-handed drywall screws. When she came back without them telling me there was no such thing I sent her back a second time to talk to the manager.

Note I said "ex" wife...

The famous ones used in my field would be "the cable stretcher" and "the gigline".

You know the people at Home Depot know someone is messing with the girl when one comes in asking for stuff like that.
I wonder how often they play along with it.

I've talked to some of the people at home depot, and a few of them are semi retarded. You could probaly have one of those guys looking for weird shit for a couple hours before he asked someone.

I'm doing a side job and the owner wanted me to shop prices on 1x3 pine.
I called lowes, first guy just hung up on me and transfered my call to the flooring dept. Flooring guy acted like i was a jerk for calling his line, then put m on hold for 2 mins and came back saying "i don't see any pine anywhere in the store" meanwhile i'm looking at it on they're website and i know they have a whole isle of it.

I talked shit to him and said don't worry about it, I'll go somewhere else. They pay those slackers like $18/hr in lumber too. POA

In the chemist world, the solvent drummers would put an empty bottle in the testing box and label it "Sailboat Fuel." I don't think anyone falls for it.
