I usually get ceramic pads for my car and they usually work for a long time. The ones I bought 2 years ago sucked and were worn out before the 2 yr mark (45k-ish).. I might as well bought the carbon pads for that short of a life span. Fortunately, they were under warranty, so they didn't cost me a dime to get replaced. I heard that there are metallic pads that come with a lifetime warranty. I want to know what the scoop is with those for the next time they need changing.
the compound really doesn't cause that much of a difference. Driving style does.

the carbon metallic will last a little longer, but they are loud and messy

I guess its one of the many benefits to owning a manual car. And also not being an asshat driver

On my old truck, the front brakes would only last about 30k, and I only bought one pair of pads.
Every time I changed them I took them back to the store and got new ones free.

I've had my car for close to 10 years now too. I believe i put front brakes on when I first bought it. that was it.

yeah, I've never really paid attention. I just assumed brakes were one of those mainteneance items that didn't have warranty.
