This isn’t really anything new. If you ever saw the movie Beer Wars you’d know big beer’s strategy has been to fill shelves to eliminate the competition. That’s why you’ll see 10 different versions of the same Bud Lager on the shelves at your liquor store. They also control most of the distribution making it really tough for the micro breweries to get their beer to the stores. That struggle was highlighted in the book Beer School writted by the guys from Brooklyn Brewing.
Eventually people step outside of their comfort zone and find a micro they like. For that reason, big beer is trying to buy up as many small breweries as they can.
