I'm a terrible welder.

I am not too bad at it. I made a ladder for our boat... it has held my sister up so I must have done a pretty good job. I have a self darkening welding mask, as soon as it seems like it darkens... works great.

I want to buy a self darkening helmet. I only weld stuff once or twice a year though. When I worked on the farm, I was pretty good with a stick welder. This shop only has a wire welder thing with argon gas. I think the gas is out. That may have been why I couldn't get a good looking bead going. Also I didn't use the helmet, I used some really dark goggles though, and my eyes hurt now. I'll probally wake up screaming in pain later. It's happened before.

Put tea bags on your eyes if you get welder's flash. I've never had to do it, but I've been told it works good.

Last time I had it it, I was freaking out, like a little kid. It sucked. My wife drove to her Dad's house and he told her to cut a potato in half and put it on my eyes. That shit worked.

As a kid I was told never to look at it and then when Jim was teaching me how to weld I was too scared to look at it so my welds looked like shit. When Jim was doing the custom exhaust on the mustang for his brother he got it really bad. I'll remember that though! Thanks IBG
